Radiation Therapist Role
BC Cancer is seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team. As a Radiation Therapist, you will provide radiation services and patient care in accordance with established policies and standards of professional practice for radiation therapy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient care by performing duties such as patient assessment, reviewing patient and family history, educating patients and families on treatment process and side effects, and recommending self-care measures.
- Consult with and/or refer patients to members of other healthcare disciplines as required.
- Perform treatment planning procedures, including assisting patients in interpreting treatment plans, evaluating patient understanding of treatment and side effects, and reviewing, interpreting, and implementing radiation treatment prescriptions.
- Ensure patients and their families are aware of services available at BC Cancer and in the community.
- Maintain patient records by collecting and documenting information related to patient and healthcare history, radiation therapist assessment, symptom and side effect management, and patient and family education.
- Perform quality assurance checks of equipment in assigned work areas according to established procedures and maintain records of checks and take appropriate action on equipment malfunctions.
Requirements
- Degree in Radiation Therapy or recognized certificate and Canadian Association for Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification.
- Within the preceding five years, the successful completion of Radiation Therapy training program or active employment as a Radiation Therapist.
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Carry out the physical duties of the position.
- Work independently and prioritize issues and workload.
- Apply clinical and technical knowledge into practice.
- Operate related equipment.
- Demonstrate skills in CPR techniques.
