Assistant Bioinformatics Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide supervisory and technical support to the Bioinformatics group of the Genome Sequence Centre (GSC).
- Ensure day-to-day activities meet research, data analysis throughput, and software development objectives.
What You'll Do
- Assist the Bioinformatics Coordinator in day-to-day activities by providing input on quantity and quality of work, making recommendations for improvements, workflow, and procedures.
- Coordinate projects by chairing meetings, providing project status reports, and suggesting improvements in project management, task allocation, and overall process.
- Develop and implement assays to monitor project progress and measure accomplishments to ensure focus is maintained and provide feedback to staff.
Supervisory Support
- Orient new staff.
- Provide input on training requirements.
- Assign workload and establish work schedules.
- Review and establish work priorities and adjust schedules to meet priorities.
- Complete performance reviews and address performance issues.
Recruitment and Quality Improvement
- Participate in recruitment by interviewing internal and external applicants and forwarding hiring recommendations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement programs to ensure efficient and effective services.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized Bachelor's program in a related discipline.
- A minimum of four years of recent related experience, including computer programming, quantitative data analysis, biological sequence and/or mapping data, database development, and data storage.
- Experience with Linux, UNIX, C, C++, Perl, Matlab, and MySQL.
