The City of Cornwall is seeking a highly skilled and organized Accounts Payable team member to support business activities. This 12-month contract position offers a competitive salary, excellent work environment, and opportunities for professional growth.

As a key member of the Finance Department, you will be responsible for processing approximately 23,000 payments per year, including supplier invoices, employee expense claims, and other payment requests by internal departments. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and data entry will be essential in ensuring accurate and timely payments.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Scanning invoices and supporting documents into the payment system
  • Accurate data entry in the payment system for electronic approval
  • Reimbursement of employees by verifying expense reports
  • Vendor account verification through monthly statement reconciliation and related transactions
  • Purchase order, invoice, documentation, and payment discrepancies resolution
  • Preparation and posting of invoice batches
  • Management of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and cheque runs
  • Preparation of vendor cheques and EFT payment notices for mailing
  • Response to departmental and supplier inquiries
  • Processing AP mail received via post and email
  • Maintenance of an organized workflow for timely payment
  • Manual cheque preparation as required
  • Administration of the departmental petty cash fund
  • Adherence to internal control processes
  • Other related duties as assigned

This role requires a minimum of a secondary school diploma or equivalent with a post-secondary program in Accounting/Finance. Recent related experience (preferably 1+ years) and strong verbal and written English communication skills are essential. French language skills are considered an asset. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to operate an adding machine and keyboard proficiently.
