Job Overview

The Senior Avalanche Risk Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safety of staff and guests at WhiteWater Ski Resort by monitoring weather and snowpack conditions, creating hazard assessments, and implementing avalanche risk management decisions.

This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to remain organized and level-headed in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor weather and snowpack conditions to create daily hazard assessments
  • Implement avalanche risk management decisions resort-wide
  • Communicate avalanche hazards to staff and guests through social media updates, public bulletins, and other forms of outreach
  • Lead avalanche operations and manage multiple control routes
  • Provide training and mentorship to employees
Requirements
  • NUEC Level 3 First Aid with advanced protocols or equivalent
  • Avalanche Operations Level 2 from Canadian Avalanche Association
  • Work Safe BC Blasting Certificate for Avalanche Control with Hand Charging endorsement
  • Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Professional membership
  • Minimum three years of avalanche forecasting and explosive control experience
  • Class 5 British Columbia Drivers License
Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain organized and level-headed in emergency situations
  • Advanced skiing ability
  • Able to ski with considerable loads and patient toboggans
  • Able to perform search and rescue activities
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $ **$80,000 - $110,000** per year, depending on experience. The role also comes with a range of benefits, including health insurance, retirement savings, and opportunities for professional development.
