Job Title: School Paraeducator/Behavioral Aide

Job Summary:

The School Paraeducator/Behavioral Aide plays a vital role in supporting teachers and staff in providing instructional and behavioral support to students with special needs. This position involves working directly with students to promote their academic, social, and behavioral development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing instructional programs to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Support students individually or in small groups to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Prepare instructional materials and activities to enhance student engagement and understanding.
  • Implement behavioral intervention plans to promote positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
  • Monitor and record student behavior and progress to inform instruction and support.
  • Support students in developing positive behaviors and self-care skills.
  • Supervise students during activities and transitions to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assist with self-care and daily living skills to promote student independence.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment by maintaining a clean and organized classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and school staff to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Communicate student progress and needs to parents and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development to stay current on best practices and research-based interventions.
  • Report to the classroom teacher and principal to ensure seamless communication and support.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Ability to follow instructional and behavioral plans to ensure student success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in education or a related field.
  • Training in behavioral intervention techniques to enhance support for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Experience working with students with special needs to provide targeted support and accommodations.

Licensing and Certification:

  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Relevant state or district certifications as required.
