We are seeking a highly skilled Allergy Technologist to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As an Allergy Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our Outpatient Allergy Clinic.
Key Responsibilities- Calibrate and maintain equipment for inhalation challenges and spirometry tests, ensuring accurate data collection and patient safety.
- Assist in preparing patient charts and requisitions for testing, ordering special drugs and vaccines as required.
- Obtain patient data, including height and weight, and complete standardized questionnaires to ensure comprehensive patient information.
- Perform exercise and inhalation challenge tests, skin testing, and drug challenge tests, measuring and recording results accurately.
- Provide education to patients and families on environmental control measures, medication use, and avoidance of allergens, using written materials and discussions.
- Order and prepare clinical supplies and samples, recognizing and reporting equipment malfunctions.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for the Allergy Clinic, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology, plus one year of recent experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Graduation from an accredited program in Medical Terminology.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and families, providing comfort and reassurance during procedures.
- Ability to organize workload and prioritize tasks, ensuring efficient and effective patient care.
- Technical knowledge and competence to perform procedures assigned, with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
