Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Summary

At Shared Health, we are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our Diagnostic Imaging team. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of standardized and complex sonography services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing patients for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, and obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality.
  • Assisting with diagnosis, clinical intervention, and patient management to ensure a high level of patient care.
  • Assisting in the education of new staff, students, and residents, quality assurance, and research endeavors within the department.
  • Providing diagnostic services on campus at the Health Sciences Centre and other satellite offices located throughout the city.

Requirements:

  • Previous related experience is preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited program in Diagnostic Ultrasound.
  • Eligibility for registration with Sonography Canada CRGS (Canadian Registered General Sonographer) credential and registration within three months of hire.
  • Certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with specialties in Obstetrical/Gynecological and Abdominal Sonography.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements in accordance with Employer policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competency in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • High degree of technical expertise and thorough knowledge of all specialized areas in diagnostic ultrasound.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to adapt readily and respond with initiative to a changing environment.
  • Planning, organizational, and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workload.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods without resting.
  • Use of safe and effective body mechanics while working with clients.
  • Safe transfer of large and/or heavy clients with limited or no weight-bearing capabilities.
  • Positioning clients in a state of unconsciousness.
