Teaching Opportunity at the University of Toronto

We are seeking an experienced professional playwright and/or screenwriter with a specialization in writing for performance to join our faculty as a Sessional Lecturer. This is a teaching opportunity to contribute to the academic excellence of our students.

About the Position

This role involves designing and delivering course content, developing and administering assignments, tests, and exams, and providing regular office hours. The successful candidate will also supervise Teaching Assistants (TAs) assigned to the course, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Course Design and Delivery: Prepare and deliver engaging course content on writing for performance, including theatre, film, and television.
  • Assignment Development: Create and administer assessments that evaluate students' understanding of writing for performance.
  • Office Hours: Hold regular office hours to support student learning and address any questions or concerns.
  • Supervision of TAs: Oversee the work of TAs assigned to the course, providing guidance and feedback as needed.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A professional background in playwriting and/or screenwriting with recent credits in Canadian theatre, television, or film.
  • A specialization in writing for performance, including theatre, film, and television.
  • Evidence of currency in subject matter and demonstrated ability to teach and/or mentor at the postsecondary level.
  • A willingness to develop and submit a course proposal/outline with their application material.
Salary Information

The estimated salary range for this position is between $18,915.79 per full course for SL1 and $21,140.03 per full course for SL3 Long Term, depending on the lecturer's experience and qualifications.
