Nursing Care Specialist

Under the direction of the resident services manager, this role is responsible for the care of assigned residents/tenants and the provision of job guidance to the attendants.
Ensuring adherence to all regulations and standards in accordance with the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority is a key aspect of this position.
Background/QualificationsA registered practical nurse possessing a current Ontario Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required. Possession of a medication administration certificate is also necessary. The ability to follow oral and written instructions in the English language is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Participating actively in and contributing to ChelseyPark's Quality Improvement Program is a vital part of this role. This includes assessing the needs of individual residents/tenants and organizing for the provision of nursing care to promote maximum resident independence in conjunction with the resident services manager.
Carrying out planned assignments and job routines for effective resident and tenant care, taking into account the physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the individual, is a key responsibility.
Supervising the nursing care given by attendants and unregulated care providers or designated staff, in accordance with the resident care plans, is also a critical aspect of this position.
Providing direct resident/tenant care, in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies, and procedures, is essential. Assisting with the implementation and enforcement of all ChelseyPark's policies is also a key responsibility.
Maintaining effective communication and good interpersonal relations with medical and allied staff, residents, tenants, families, and other departments is vital.
Providing emergency medical assistance and summoning appropriate intervention and notifying family of the same is a critical aspect of this role.
Maintaining accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed is essential. Assisting with the safe keeping of all drugs and nursing solutions in the residence is also a key responsibility.
Participating in the development of and implementation of a plan of care for residents that supports independence as a member of the multi-disciplinary team is a vital part of this role.
Supporting and actively participating in unit orientation and completing applicable educational training is essential.
Assisting the resident services manager in evaluating the performance of the attendants and unregulated care providers; assisting with appropriate documentation is a key responsibility.
Keeping the resident services manager informed of any staff members who performance is less than satisfactory is also a critical aspect of this position.
Administering medication in accordance with the College of Nurses standards as an added nursing skill and in compliance with the policies of ChelseyPark is essential.
Consulting with tenants and residents and their families and/or physicians regarding need for varied service interventions and/or referrals is a vital part of this role.
Recording all charges for services on individual resident/tenant sheets is essential.
Complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System is a key responsibility.
This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in educational sessions and fire drills.
Performing other related duties as delegated by the Resident Services Manager is also a critical aspect of this position.
