Job Summary

The Associate Director of the Black Student Centre is a key member of the Student Services Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion management team. This role plays a crucial part in developing and implementing programs and organizational change initiatives that advance the institution's commitment to Black flourishing and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Director of EDI to develop and implement strategic plans for the BSC, ensuring SFU fulfills its commitments to the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Inclusion.
  • Prioritize the social and psychological well-being of Black students, promoting their holistic well-being and success through the implementation, management, coordination, and assessment of all BSC programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including Black student organizations, community groups, and university departments.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement inclusive curricula and instructional practices.
  • Develop and manage budgets, programs, and services that support the academic success and well-being of Black students.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Education, or a related social science discipline.
  • Five years of related experience in areas such as EDI, with evidence of management-level experience with professional teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of student development theory and outreach programs for post-secondary Black students.
  • Working knowledge of the diversity of Black cultures, history, and contemporary issues that shape and impact Black students in a post-secondary context.
  • Knowledge of supporting individuals from diverse populations from equity-deserving groups, recognizing the diversity of experience based on gender, sexuality, race, age, class, family status, disability, Indigeneity, immigration status, language, religion, national or ethnic origin, and intersecting identities.
  • Excellent strategic leadership, interpersonal, judgement, communication, and human resource management skills.
