About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Reinsurance Underwriter to join our Hybrid Solutions team in Toronto, Canada. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal Managing General Agents and Automatic Facultative accounts, including Property, general liability, automobile liability, excess, umbrella liability, and professional liability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and cultivate new and existing carrier and reinsurance broker relationships to maintain an opportunity pipeline that will lead to the achievement of department premium and production goals.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Contribute to specific Performance Plans assigned to the Hybrid division to reach our projected premium and profitability goals.
  • Collaborate with all functional areas of the company, including claims, accounting, contract wording, and actuarial to support company objectives.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies, market trends in the insurance and reinsurance marketplace.
  • Attend industry conferences and meetings as necessary.
  • Travel as required to achieve the above.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above and insurance certifications, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of Canadian Property/Casualty underwriting experience, including automobile, financial lines, and other specialty lines.
  • Reinsurance (facultative or treaty), program, or professional lines experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge or past experience with Managing General Agents or portfolio underwriting.
  • Experience with auditing property and casualty accounts.
  • Ability to stay organized within a fast-paced, team-oriented, and dynamic work environment with the ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of catastrophe modeling and data requirements for detailed analysis.
  • Self-motivated and able to effectively and efficiently work remotely when necessary.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting pricing for property, auto liability, general liability, and excess/umbrella liability.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong relationship management and business development skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of various Microsoft programs, including Excel.
