Job Title: Waste Management Labourer

We are seeking a reliable and physically fit Waste Management Labourer to join our team at the City of Iqaluit. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for providing general labour services to our landfill and assisting in carrying out municipal services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general labour services at the landfill, including garbage removal, operating the compactor, and cleaning/sorting of landfill waste.
  • Assist the public with inquiries and provide information on municipal services.
  • Perform maintenance checks on equipment and maintain and repair fencing for aesthetics and site security.
  • Contribute to the compaction and covering of waste, snow and ice removal, and record keeping.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 3 Driver's License.
  • Confident in reading and writing reports and other documents.
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift up to 30lbs.
  • Ability to follow directions and instructions.
  • Capability to perform duties safely and efficiently.
Assets:
  • Knowledge and/or experience with WHMIS.
  • The ability to speak Inuktitut and/or French.
  • Experience working for a municipality.

Please note that a Criminal Record and driver's abstract are required for this position. The City of Iqaluit embraces the intent and spirit of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and will give priority to Nunavut Inuit candidates who clearly identify their eligibility.
