Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is seeking a highly skilled Plans Examination Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Fire Prevention department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our community through the review and approval of building plans.
Key Responsibilities:- Review and analyze complex building plans to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and bylaws.
- Conduct final inspections of new buildings to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Develop and maintain educational materials to communicate fire safety responsibilities to building owners.
- Provide technical advice and direction to architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Research and recommend alternative products, materials, and methods of construction to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
- Level 2 Building Official Diploma of Qualification and ability to obtain Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification.
- Minimum ten (10) years' relevant experience administering the Fire Safety Act and Regulations, Building Code Act and Regulations, and/or related legislation.
- Considerable experience reviewing complex building plans, such as high-rise and industrial buildings.
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
