Job Title: Plans Examination Specialist

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is seeking a highly skilled Plans Examination Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our fire safety team, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing complex construction documents to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze building plans and property development proposals to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and regulations.
  • Conduct final inspections of new buildings to ensure they meet fire safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials and procedures to communicate fire safety responsibilities to building owners.
  • Provide technical advice and direction to architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders on fire safety matters.
  • Research and recommend new products, materials, and methods of construction to ensure compliance with fire safety codes.
Requirements:
  • Level 2 Building Official Diploma of Qualification and ability to obtain Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification.
  • Minimum ten (10) years' relevant experience administering the Fire Safety Act and Regulations, Building Code Act and Regulations, and related legislation.
  • Considerable experience reviewing complex building plans, such as high-rise and industrial buildings.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check.
