About the Role

The BC Public Service Agency is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the Plant Health Unit as its Director. This is a key leadership position that requires a strong background in plant sciences, agricultural sciences, and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of experts in plant pathology, entomology, and diagnostics to safeguard plant health and agricultural productivity in British Columbia.
  • Oversee laboratory operations, manage resources, and strategically support the agricultural sector.
  • Develop and implement diagnostic testing, targeted research programs, and regulatory compliance to ensure agricultural sustainability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance food safety, security, and the global competitiveness of BC's agriculture sector.
Qualifications
  • A Master's degree (or equivalent) in plant sciences or agricultural sciences, with a specialization in plant pathology, entomology, weed science, or pest management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in plant sciences or agricultural sciences, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior management role.
  • Proven experience in managing or working in plant diagnostic laboratory functions, procedures, and operations.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and establish program and project objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Registration as a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists or another Canadian Institute.
  • Experience working in the agriculture or environmental sector.
  • Experience managing or working in an accredited diagnostic laboratory.
