Recreation Coordinator

The Recreation Coordinator - Social Programs Specialist assesses, develops, and coordinates the delivery of social, recreational, and therapeutic programs that cater to the needs, interests, and abilities of individuals in care. This role prioritizes the dignity and individuality of each person, recognizing their unique cultural, spiritual, and psycho-social needs.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct assessments to identify patient needs and develop programs that reflect those needs.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to deliver social programs that promote physical and emotional well-being.
Develop and implement activation programs that cater to patients with dementia and physical limitations.
Foster excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills to ensure a positive and respectful environment.
Demonstrate strong planning, organizational, and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Possess excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing, and strong computer skills.
Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve shared goals and objectives.
Education and Qualifications
Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field.
Gentle persuasion or Montessori training is an asset.
Current First Aid/CPR certification is required.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Recreation Coordinator or in a related field.
Other Skills and Abilities
Enjoy working with clients of all ages and backgrounds.
Possess strong communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
Ability to handle difficult situations in a professional and objective manner.
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
Standards of Performance
The successful candidate must demonstrate ongoing competency in completing all duties and responsibilities of this job description, in response to changes by the regulating body, as well as agreed-upon specific goals and objectives.
