At Thrive Group Canada, we are seeking a skilled Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our recreation team, you will play a vital role in designing and delivering engaging recreational programs that promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Recreation & Volunteer Coordinator to plan and direct recreational programs.
  • Organize and lead individual and group activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities.
  • Develop and maintain monthly calendars, ensuring seamless communication with residents and staff.
  • Assist with decorating activity boards to create an engaging atmosphere.
  • Monitor and record participation statistics, providing valuable insights for program improvement.
  • Evaluate ongoing activities and programs with the Recreation & Volunteer Coordinator, ensuring alignment with our care culture.
  • Participate in evening and weekend programs as scheduled, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Act as a liaison between residents and the Recreation & Volunteer Coordinator, fostering strong relationships and open communication.
  • Contribute to public relations efforts through programs like open houses and intergenerational activities with local schools.
  • Attend educational workshops and conferences to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Complete requisitions for food and maintenance related to programs, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Responsible for announcements on home areas, keeping residents informed about programs and events.
  • Write thank-you letters as required, demonstrating appreciation and gratitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, upholding our commitment to excellence and care culture.

Requirements:

  • College diploma in Recreation or Gerontology from an Ontario postsecondary institution or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease, other dementias, and chronic health challenges.
  • Proven ability to design therapeutic recreation programs that cater to diverse needs.
  • Empathetic, listening, and reflective skills, with a customer-service focus.
  • Well-developed time management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Competent personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
