About the Role


As a Litigation Assistant, you will provide administrative and practice support to the Litigation Team at The Canada Life Assurance Company.



Your Key Responsibilities



  • Work in partnership with a team of litigation lawyers, senior law clerks, law clerks, and legal assistants to maintain an effective in-house practice.
  • Prepare, draft, and proofread correspondence, pleadings, court documents, and other documents.
  • Assist in compiling, serving, and filing pleadings and other legal documents.
  • Maintain a diary system, manage calendars, schedule and coordinate meetings.
  • Schedule court dates, mediations, independent medical examinations, surveillance, and other investigations.
  • Review and triage incoming legal documentation and ensure relevant documents are properly stored in the Document Management System (M-Files), and are named and classified in accordance with Litigation practice guidelines.
  • Open, organize, and maintain new files by entering all relevant data in the Law Department's matter management system.
  • Perform other administrative duties as required, such as reporting and processing invoices.


Your Requirements



  • A Legal Assistant Diploma or a combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a legal administrative role.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, to varying audiences, including proofreading with keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of legal and court documents and procedures across Canada, preferably.
  • A team player with well-developed organizational and time management skills.
  • A motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and productively as part of a team while managing competing priorities to deliver business results.
  • Strong technical skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Pro, matter management, and document management software (M-Files, Relativity).
  • Excellent interpersonal and client services skills, with a professional and positive demeanor.
  • Experience working with highly sensitive and confidential information as part of daily duties.
  • Able to work in-office 3 days per week.
