Job Title: Specialist Intervenor

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist Intervenor to join our team at CNIB Deafblind Community Services. As a Specialist Intervenor, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals who are Deafblind to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide one-on-one support and guidance to Deafblind individuals in their homes or communities, promoting access to information and facilitating communication.
  2. Act as a sighted guide and environmental information provider, enhancing the Deafblind individual's ability to navigate and interact with their surroundings.
  3. Collaborate with Deafblind individuals to determine their level of support, ensuring their unique needs are met.
  4. Empower Deafblind individuals to participate actively in their communities, including recreation, education, and self-advocacy opportunities.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  1. Knowledge of theories and principles of intervention, as well as Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and related health concerns.
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  3. A diploma or degree in a human services field, or related experience working with Deafblind individuals.
  4. Experience with alternate formats of communication, such as Two-Hand Manual, American Sign Language, and Braille, is an asset.
  5. The ability to travel and work flexible hours is required.
