Compensation: Estimated salary range for this role in Edmonton, Canada is between $90,000 - $140,000 per year.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Intermediate Underwriter, Commercial Lines to join our team. As an Intermediate Underwriter, you will play a critical role in assessing and evaluating risks, negotiating with brokers, and developing a profitable book of business. This is a full-time permanent opportunity that requires a minimum of 2 days a week in our Edmonton office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate moderate to complex risks to determine their feasibility for insurance coverage.
  • Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies to ensure profitability and adherence to company guidelines.
  • Quote, negotiate, sell, and authorize the acceptance of new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business.
  • Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to build relationships and identify sales opportunities.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Utilize computer systems to manage policy inquiries, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 3+ years of commercial insurance experience with a strong track record of developing, mentoring, and coaching teammates.
  • Able to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers and colleagues through exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Sales-focused with demonstrated confidence when communicating with brokers and making sound business decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to assess and evaluate risks effectively.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Solution-oriented with the ability to recommend improvements to increase work efficiency.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and ability to navigate multiple systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred.
