Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in Cardiac Services at Fraser Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to individuals requiring cardiac monitoring and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Identify actual or potential problems, plan interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Collect information from various sources, utilizing skills of observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment.
  • Coordinate and provide nursing care to assigned patients according to physician and anaesthetist orders and in conformance with established standards and hospital policies.
  • Set priorities, assign, and delegate tasks to appropriate staff.
  • Modify care as needs change.
  • Initiate immediate treatment, such as applying non-invasive monitoring devices if required.
  • Explain procedures to the patient and/or teach the patient how to deal with the result of the procedure.
  • Obtain, check, set up, and position supplies, instruments, and equipment required for interventional procedures, ensuring that instruments and equipment are in working order.
  • Report instruments/equipment in need of repair.
  • Perform circulation duties, including passing instruments and supplies, medications, and other materials to the team.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnosis, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of Cardiology component of Post Basic Critical Care course, or post basic High Acuity Course, approved Arrhythmia interpretation course plus one year's recent experience in cardiac monitoring or telemetry unit, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current CPR (Level C) Basic Rescuer Certificate.

  • Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to use factual information, prior learning, and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.
