Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Analyst to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a GIS Analyst, you will play a key role in facilitating the analysis, compilation, and dissemination of geographically referenced data sets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, maintain, and update digital maps and associated databases related to the City's Geographic Information System.
  • Create custom databases and maps, input, manipulate, and retrieve spatial and tabular data.
  • Analyze and translate customer business needs into GIS application and operational requirements.
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control tasks to ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS and Open Data databases and standards.
  • Conduct research and development, analyze, interpret, and report on GIS and Open Data research findings.
  • Provide content administration, data dissemination, documentation, spatial analysis, map production, user training, and general GIS and Open Data user support.
Requirements
  • University degree or college diploma in Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Land Surveying, Geography, and Urban Planning, or related disciplines.
  • Progressive responsible experience and proven knowledge in mapping and spatial database analysis and user support.
  • Demonstrated previous experience and proven knowledge in designing and implementing spatial and open data database technology.
  • Working knowledge and experience with a range of computer and software, including desktop and online GIS products, GIS databases, and scripting languages.
  • Experience and knowledge working in an Open Data program, utilizing Open Data best practices, standards, and extrapolating data.
  • Ability to translate complex data into meaningful information and useful products for different audiences.
