Friesens Corporation Job Description:

The Lead Bindery Machine Operator is a key role in our production team, responsible for directing team members and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment.

This position requires a strong understanding of machine troubleshooting and maintenance, as well as effective communication and leadership skills.

  1. High School diploma, GED or equivalent
  2. Minimum 1 year experience as a book binding machine operator
  3. Basic machine troubleshooting and maintenance experience
  4. Effective English use and comprehension
  5. Digital Literacy (Microsoft Office, keyboarding skills)
  6. Essential Math Skills (Metric and Imperial measurements, problem solving, conversion charts, etc)
  7. Ability to detect, isolate and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery, equipment and product
  8. Organization, prioritizing, time and stress management skills
  9. Able to operate the required machinery/equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  10. Ability to operate and use small tools
  11. Continuous learning/improvement mindset
  12. Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating self-management capabilities
  13. Able to deal with people diplomatically and professionally at all times
  14. Excellent manual dexterity
  15. Willingness to work overtime as needed
  16. Ability to work 12-hour shifts
  17. Must be willing to work at all Friesens facilities as needed

Responsibilities:

  1. Work and communicate effectively with the level II operator, managers and co-workers
  2. Manage production run for quality, efficiency, and productivity
  3. Understand the job requirements from information on the docket and related information
  4. Arrange for delivery of all job components as needed
  5. Prepare glue supply
  6. Communicate responsibilities to Level II Operator and/or Production Support staff
  7. Efficiently set up the machine as required and run samples making necessary adjustments
  8. Perform periodic visual checks and inspections of product at all stages
  9. Run sample and get "first copy" approval
  10. Set up taper and packing area
  11. Run job to quantity
  12. Stack components neatly on skids
  13. Identify finished component storage
  14. Return docket
  15. Select premium quality advance copies and sign off the Advance Copy form
  16. Manage and perform machine maintenance as described in the Machine Maintenance Binder and the Operators Manual
  17. Practice Friesens safety procedure for equipment and plant situations
  18. Perform any other job assignments as assigned by the managers
