Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of the entire fleet of primary and secondary equipment to ensure safe and reliable vehicle availability for operational requirements.
  • Conduct fleet evaluations to guarantee maintenance standards are met, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage maintenance managers to ensure performance and cost focus across the area, aligning with corporate objectives.
  • Review capital equipment requisitions in accordance with corporate guidelines and objectives.
  • Optimize vehicle asset utilization to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Ensure maintenance shops are adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained to maintain high standards.
  • Implement and enforce vehicle management systems to ensure effective utilization.
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to WM's Mission to Zero standards and regulations to promote safe and efficient operations.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate-directed programs in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the budget process as required.
  • Contribute to creating a positive team-oriented environment through employee development and motivation.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the department, including selecting, coaching, and training staff and maintenance managers, and evaluating employee performance.
  • Provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline managers according to WM's policies and procedures, ensuring maintenance managers comply with standards in their administration of counseling and disciplinary steps.
  • Deliver training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees:

  • Direct supervision of 12-14 employees over 2 shifts: 9-11 technicians and welders, 1 supervisor, 1 clerical support, and 1 fleet specialist.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience: 5 years of previous experience (in addition to education requirements) required.

Additional Requirements

  • Bilingual (French and English) spoken and written - WM requires a bilingual speaking manager due to frequent interactions and communications with employees, customers, and others located outside of Quebec.

Work Environment

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.
