We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineering Director to join our team at Loblaw Digital. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our data engineering strategy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality data solutions that meet the needs of our business.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a high-performing team of data engineers and analysts, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.
- Develop and execute initiatives to bring best practices and state-of-the-art thinking to our data engineering practice, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve in terms of technology and innovation.
- Collaborate with product teams and other technical directors to ensure our ML Ops platform meets the highest standards of operational excellence, delivering robust and scalable solutions that meet business needs.
- Work closely with the data science team to ensure we provide the tooling and support needed to maximize the business impact of machine learning in our technology platform.
- Partner with business and product teams to ensure our BI platform empowers reporting and data literacy across the organization, providing insights that inform business decisions.
- Lead web analytics and marketing intelligence teams to map customer behavior and derive insights, informing business strategies and driving growth.
- Work with the SRE organization, security, and privacy groups to ensure data governance and access control are implemented robustly and scalable, protecting our customers' data and ensuring compliance.
- Drive a culture of engineering excellence within the Data Platform and Business Intelligence teams, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science).
- Expertise in SQL and hands-on experience with software development (preferably at least either Java or Python, ideally both).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams.
- Experience with cloud, machine learning, and big data technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure, Hadoop ecosystem, Spark, Kafka, Seldon, etc.).
- Familiarity with modern SDLC practices and agile methodologies.
- Solid intuitive understanding of data modeling fundamentals, and how they inform data sources, usability, and warehouse and pipeline design.
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong detail orientation is essential in this role.
