Loblaw Digital is seeking a visionary Director of Data Engineering to spearhead the development of our cutting-edge technology platform. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving innovation and excellence in data engineering, machine learning, and business intelligence.

The Impact You'll Make

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our digital experiences, leveraging your expertise to build a robust cloud-native ML Ops platform that integrates state-of-the-art machine learning capabilities. Your leadership will empower our data science team to maximize the business impact of machine learning, while ensuring data governance and access control are implemented robustly and scalably.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute initiatives to bring best practices and cutting-edge thinking to our data engineering practice
  • Collaborate with product teams and other tech directors to ensure the ML Ops platform meets the highest standards of operational excellence
  • Work closely with the data science team to provide the tooling and support to maximize the business impact of machine learning
  • Drive a culture of engineering excellence within the Data Platform and Business Intelligence teams
  • Provide mentorship to team members and act as a subject matter expert
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science)
  • Expertise in SQL and hands-on experience with software development (preferably Java or Python)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with cloud, machine learning, and big data technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure, Hadoop ecosystem, Spark, Kafka, etc.)
  • Familiarity with modern SDLC practices and agile methodologies
  • Solid intuitive understanding of data modeling fundamentals
