Electrical Project Manager Job Description

Smith + Andersen is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Manager to join our team in Winnipeg, MB. As an Electrical Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading electrical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage electrical engineering concepts, including design briefs and concept reports.
  • Review and manage electrical design in terms of construction budgets.
  • Perform or arrange for reviews of existing electrical installations and manage their impact on projects.
  • Prepare all electrical calculations and select equipment, assigning tasks to designers and CAD technicians as needed.
  • Ensure proper coordination of electrical documents with internal and external project teams.
  • Review all electrical deliverables for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development.
  • Promote and enforce company standards for project administration, documentation, and processes.
  • Act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of contract administration activities.
  • Coordinate with contract administration teams regarding drawing reviews, contract administration processes, and site activities.
  • Prepare change notices or review change notices issued by contract administration teams.
  • Ensure tasks are completed accurately and within assigned hours/fee.
  • Respond to technical and financial queries related to projects.
  • Keep Principal-in-Charge or Associate Principal advised of changes in scope of work and prepare amendments to contracts.
  • Ensure internal project team discipline coordination processes are complete.
  • Prepare and monitor schedules of tasks required to complete projects, including hours to perform tasks and critical data.
  • Liaise with external consultants and vendors to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Support accounts receivable processes.
  • Organize and attend client meetings, including delivering presentations.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of project engineering experience in electrical building services.
  • Registered Engineer in the province of Nova Scotia.
  • Senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
  • Full understanding of Codes and Standards relevant for projects and ability to communicate requirements to internal and external project teams.
  • Full understanding of project procurement methodologies and ability to recommend or apply such methods for projects.
  • Experience in healthcare facilities, including Infection Control Certification CAN/CSA Z312 and CSA Z32, is an asset.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in complex environments, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Possess sound communications skills, as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Knowledgeable about provincial building code, electrical code, CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES, and NFPA standards.
  • LEED certification/experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
