Job Summary

The Associate Buyer is a key member of the procurement team at Leonardo DRS, responsible for managing the end-to-end process for the procurement of materials from suppliers. This role involves executing and generating purchase orders, researching and sourcing hard-to-find items, and generating requests for proposals and bids.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage daily systems, processes, and procedures governing the procurement of materials from suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards.
  • Execute and generate purchase orders in accordance with MRP demand and approved requisitions.
  • Research and source hard-to-find items, leveraging industry knowledge and supplier relationships.
  • Generate requests for proposals, bids, and other documents related to the purchasing of supplies, equipment, services, and materials.
  • Assist in negotiations and apply knowledge of commercial contract law and guidelines to assess, plan, and negotiate best terms and conditions.
  • Send expedite reports to suppliers to ensure existing purchase order deliverables are on schedule and solicit commitment for expedite requests.
  • Maintain the MRP system (Costpoint) delivery due dates and respective notes.
  • Evaluate supplier performance, including price, OTD, lead-time, and non-conformance.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers in accordance with the company's ethical code and standards of conduct.
  • Provide analytics to include impact of changes on price, FX, waterfall analysis, overall activity levels, and savings tracking.
  • Assist in implementing group procurement strategy and track and report cost savings or avoidances.
  • Support the monthly Estimate at Complete (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) data collection and validation.
  • Perform various general tactical duties to support purchasing activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • APICS certification is considered an asset.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Material or Supply Chain Management is considered an asset.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all laws pertaining to procurement, contracts, breach by contract, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of MRP is essential.
  • Effective computer skills, including Microsoft Office suites, database creation, and maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Works well within a team environment.
