Job Title: Estimator

The Estimator plays a critical role in the Sales Department, responsible for costing and processing customer quotes in a timely manner.

This key position provides technical support to the Sales team and the Design Engineering department, reporting directly to the VP, Sales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creating layouts/mold concepts in CAD to estimate costs and reflect customer design requests
  • Working closely with the Sales team to develop quotes that result in profitable orders
  • Preparing timely estimates of costs of materials, labor, and equipment for manufacturing projects
  • Familiarizing oneself with all manufacturing processes in the plant to ensure accurate quoting
  • Reviewing and revising layouts and process changes to pricing based on new information
  • Negotiating project costs related to machining services, vendors, and/or subcontractors
  • Communicating technical aspects of mold concept/design to sales and engineering teams
  • Collaborating with sales, engineering, manufacturing, planning, scheduling, and supply chain teams to identify and resolve manufacturing and costing issues
Key Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an estimating role within the Injection Mold Industry
  • Experience in thin wall, closure, and/or other custom injection molds
  • Strong experience in mold assembly design and CAD (2D-3D) technology
  • Unigraphics NX preferred
  • Exposure to machining practices, process planning, and sub-contracting experience for quoting
  • Strong understanding of business concepts, including gross margins, currency conversion, and job costing
  • Intermediate level competency with MS Excel
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude, with strong attention to detail
