Job Summary
The Research Coordinator will provide administrative support to the Department Head and Principal Investigators in the areas of human resources, payroll, grant and research administration. This role will be responsible for monitoring payroll and financial cost centres, resolving payroll issues, and providing administrative support including managing the grant application process.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of grant proposals, follow up with the granting agency, and monitor post-award financial accounts.
- Interact with national and international universities and granting agencies, ensuring the flow of information with internal and external stakeholders regarding grant-related matters.
- Coordinate registration and travel arrangements for staff attendance at seminars and meetings, including completing registration, abstract submission, and making travel and lodging reservations.
- Manage human resource responsibilities, including recruitment, coordinating interviews, and screening applications for review by hiring supervisors.
- Ensure all hiring, appointment, and payroll processes are complete for employees, liaising with various PHSA units such as Payroll and Human Resources.
- Act as the main contact for ordering lab and office supplies for the department, managing and processing various requisitions such as travel, expense reimbursements, and honorariums.
Requirements
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Diploma in a relevant area such as business administration or finance from a recognized college.
- Three (3) years' recent, related experience in a research environment and in project management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate good judgment, tact, and discretion.
- Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to assist others in meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and resolve administrative issues/problems.
- Detail orientation and the ability to complete accurate work in a timely manner.
- Proficient in scientific and medical terminology.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team leader to organize work and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge and experience in budget preparation, tracking expenditures, and identifying sources of variance.
- Fully proficient in the use of a variety of software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Demonstrate ability to evaluate personal work and existing systems and identify areas for improvement.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports.

Salary Range
