Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk, Oncology Chemo to join our team at BC Cancer in Surrey, BC.

About the Role

As a Unit Clerk, you will play a vital role in the operation of the Chemo Unit, performing a variety of clerical duties related to patient care, including booking appointments, coordinating diagnostic tests, and processing clinician orders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and process clinician orders, ensuring accurate and timely completion of requisitions and scheduling of tests and services.
  • Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients, coordinating multiple appointments and communicating with patients and staff as needed.
  • Gather patient information for medical appointments, assisting in efficient patient flow and preparing documents for the clinical team.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including greeting patients, registering them, and responding to inquiries and messages.
  • Participate in the onboarding and orientation of staff, demonstrating work procedures and answering related queries.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard 40 wpm.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
