Position Overview

The City of Kamloops is seeking a skilled Civil Design Technician to work on complex municipal design and drafting projects. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in using AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D design software to create detailed designs for roads, sidewalks, multi-use paths, roundabouts, water, sanitation mains, and storm drainage systems.

This role involves providing detailed information to field crews and the public, as well as producing and filing record drawings. We are looking for a well-organized and motivated individual with a high degree of visual and mental concentration.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of municipal design principles and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. They will also be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and draft complex municipal projects using AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D software
  • Provide detailed information to field crews and the public
  • Produce and file record drawings

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school or its equivalent
  • Completion of a two-year Computer Aided Design and Drafting program or a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum three years' previous experience in municipal design using AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D software
  • Ability to acquire certification as a Civil Technologist (AScT) or a Civil Technician (CTech) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia within 12 months
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence
