We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Indigenous Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team at BC Children's and Women's Hospital & Health Centre. As a key member of our interdisciplinary health care team, you will provide trauma-informed, anti-racist, and culturally safe nursing expertise to patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Exemplify Excellence in Nursing Practice: Provide advanced-practice nursing expertise and clinical support to the health care team, promoting excellence in nursing and cultural safety.
- Maintain Practice Excellence: Involvement with selected patient groups to maintain and improve practice excellence.
- Cultural Safety Expertise: Utilize practice opportunities to provide cultural safety expertise in nursing care, evaluate nursing practice, and provide clinical learning activities for nurses.
- Influence Cultural Safety: Participate in patient care advocacy issues to improve practice and cultural safety.
- Role Modeling: Act as a role model for professional practice, integrating clinical practice, consultation, collaboration, leadership, education, research, and evaluation.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with health care disciplines to develop effective patient care programs.
- Provincial/National Groups: Participate in provincial and national groups related to Indigenous pediatric specialty.
- Care Coordination: Coordinate care for select patients as a case manager.
- Standards and Guidelines: Develop and implement standards, clinical practice guidelines, and processes to support excellence in service delivery.
- Leadership and Development: Lead the design and implementation of integrated systems and processes to promote staff development, professional practice, and collaborative working relationships.
- Indigenous Ancestry: Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.
- Registration and Education: Registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and a Master's degree in Nursing, Leadership, or equivalent.
- Experience and Certification: A minimum of five years' recent related experience working in a designated clinical specialty and/or health care setting in a progressive leadership role, with Canadian Nurses Association certification in designated clinical specialty or membership in related provincial, national, and/or international professional association(s).
- CPR Certification: Current CPR certification including Pediatric Advanced Life Support and ACLS.
- Understanding of Indigenous-Specific Racism: Understanding of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Indigenous Community Experience: Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) communities and organizations.
- Lived Experience: Lived experiences that drive their work and vision for the future.
- Trauma-Informed Practice: Demonstrated ability to practice and lead in a trauma-informed, psychologically safe, anti-racist, patient-centered manner.
- Collaboration and Consultation: Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and consult to build relationships that promote cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
- Education and Evaluation: Demonstrated ability to provide and evaluate education/orientation on complex advanced practices to ensure skills levels are acquired or maintained by team members.
- Acute Clinical Evaluation: Demonstrated ability to utilize expert acute clinical evaluation skills to assess needs of patients and their families.
- Legislative Obligations: Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in foundational documents.
- Reconciliation: Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
