Job Overview

The Alberta Energy Regulator is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geophysicist to join our team. As a key member of the Subsurface Geology and Geohazards group, you will be responsible for providing technical support and mentorship to staff across the organization. Your expertise in seismic interpretation and data integration will be crucial in solving complex subsurface problems.

In this role, you will work closely with geoscientists and engineers to provide scientific advice and guidance on large multi-disciplinary projects. You will communicate complex technical information to internal and external stakeholders and engage regularly with personnel outside of the AER and the Government of Alberta.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with a strong background in geophysics and its application. You should have a Master's degree in geoscience or a related field and eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA. Experience coding in Matlab, Python, or similar languages is essential, and proficiency in Petrel is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific advice and guidance on large multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Work closely with geoscientists and engineers to integrate reflection and passive seismic data with other geospatial datasets.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in geoscience or related education.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA.
  • 7+ years of relevant industry, academia, or government geoscience experience.
  • Experience coding in Matlab, Python, or similar languages.
  • Proficiency in Petrel.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of geophysics and its application through conference presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications.
