About the Role

The Alberta Energy Regulator is currently recruiting for a Senior Geophysicist to join our Subsurface Geology and Geohazards team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support and mentorship to staff across the organization. Your expertise in seismic interpretation and data integration will be crucial in solving complex subsurface problems.

You will work closely with geoscientists and engineers to provide scientific advice and guidance on large multi-disciplinary projects. You will communicate complex technical information to internal and external stakeholders and engage regularly with personnel outside of the AER and the Government of Alberta.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with a strong background in geophysics and its application. You should have a Master's degree in geoscience or a related field and eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA. Experience coding in Matlab, Python, or similar languages is essential, and proficiency in Petrel is preferred.

This role requires expertise in integrating reflection and passive seismic data with other geospatial datasets, defining, classifying, and understanding the geometry, architecture, and structural nature of Alberta's subsurface. You must be able to solve complex and often undefined problems in a collaborative environment.

What We're Looking For
  • A Master's degree in geoscience or a related field.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA.
  • 7+ years of relevant industry, academia, or government geoscience experience.
  • Experience coding in Matlab, Python, or similar languages.
  • Proficiency in Petrel.
  • A strong working knowledge of geophysics and its application through conference presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications.
