The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in the Cardio-Respiratory Department, performing assigned duties as required by the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists' Scope of Practice and Institutional Policy and Procedure. This role includes assessments, implementation of treatment, evaluation, care plan, and education of patients requiring respiratory therapy.
The Respiratory Therapist obtains a patient history and assesses the clinical significance of therapist-driven protocols as related to respiratory therapy care. They conduct a full respiratory assessment, evaluate progress, adapt a treatment plan according to patient needs, and expected outcomes. The Respiratory Therapist implements a respiratory discharge plan.
Key Responsibilities- Assess patients' respiratory needs and develop individualized care plans
- Implement and evaluate treatment plans, including oxygen therapy, ventilation, and other respiratory interventions
- Conduct respiratory assessments, including pulmonary function tests and other diagnostic procedures
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide comprehensive patient care
- Provide education and support to patients and their families
- Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy, and registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certified or willingness to obtain required
- Current Heart & Stroke BCLS (Level C) Certification required
- Member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) preferred
- Successful completion of hospital-based certification and recertification procedures are mandatory for continued employment
- Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work under pressure of time limitations required
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; must be an effective team player
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Competitive hourly rate of $40.66
- Eligibility for a signing bonus and relocation assistance with a defined Return of Service contract
