The Area Manager plays a key role in improving Inspection Department effectiveness. Reporting to the Director, Inspections, this hybrid role is based at our Head Office in Toronto. Training and development opportunities are available for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 4-8 technically qualified Inspectors, reviewing their reports and ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to team members through Continuous Conversations. Evaluate and monitor team performance to ensure department goals are met.
  • Handle employee issues and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Provide feedback to field team members to improve Inspector reporting quality and efficiency.
  • Lead projects to improve department efficiencies and processes, ensuring timely completion.
  • Conduct field inspections, assessments, and investigations as required.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree with P.Eng designation (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of field experience in industries such as manufacturing, power generation, mining, petroleum, and/or pulp & paper.
  • Working knowledge of boilers and pressure vessels.
  • National Board Commission required (or ability to obtain; training will be provided if necessary).
  • Certificate of Competence (COC) required to perform jurisdictional inspections in Ontario (or ability to obtain).
  • Commercial insurance background is an asset.
  • Advanced capabilities in computer application software, and knowledge of databases and analytics tools.
  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Excel functions (complex formulas, macros, pivot tables) is a strong asset.
  • Energetic, innovative, and confident with a demonstrated ability to earn the respect of technically qualified peers and subordinates.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, with proven consistent achievement of expected results and meet target deadlines.
  • Excellent and proven skills in communication, both written and oral.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
