Hazmat Response Specialist

About the Role:
GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hazmat Response Specialist to join our HAZMAT Emergency Response Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical expertise to emergency activations involving dangerous goods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to HAZMAT emergency responses, including rail, road, and fixed facilities, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Perform chemical transloading, neutralization, and decontamination as required.
- Assist with organizing resources, including personnel, equipment, and documentation, for emergency response situations.
- Ensure all emergency response equipment is operationally ready and properly maintained.
- Collect and maintain relevant information and documentation during emergency services.
- Lead safety initiatives and uphold GFL's high standards of safety and quality of service.
- Participate in live training events and specialized projects as required.
Requirements:
- Ability to be flexible and fulfill on-call and travel requirements.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract; Class 1 or 3 driver's license is highly desirable.
- Experience in handling and/or transporting hazardous materials or emergency response is an asset.
- Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection as required.
- Ability to work out of town from time to time as needed.
- Knowledge and/or experience with vacuum trucks and power wash equipment is an asset.
- Prior training or experience in HAZMAT Technician, Tank car Specialist, Tank truck Specialist, ICS, Confined Space Entry, etc. is an asset.

- Ability to collaborate efficiently within a team setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide solutions during ER activations.
- High level of effective communication and transparency.
This is a safety-sensitive position. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required drug and alcohol testing.
