GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hazmat Response Specialist to join our HAZMAT Emergency Response Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical expertise to emergency activations involving hazardous materials.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to emergency activations involving hazardous materials, including rail, road, and fixed facilities.
- Perform chemical transloading, neutralization, and decontamination as required.
- Assist with organizing resources for emergency responses, including personnel, equipment, and documentation.
- Ensure emergency response equipment is operationally ready and perform maintenance tasks as outlined.
- Gather and maintain relevant information and documentation during emergency services.
- Lead safety efforts in emergency response, following GFL procedures and upholding high safety standards.
- Participate in live training events and specialized projects as required.
- Ability to be flexible and fulfill on-call and travel requirements.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract; Class 1 or 3 license highly desirable.
- Experience in handling and/or transporting hazardous materials or emergency response an asset.
- Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection as required.
- Ability to work out of town from time to time as needed.
- Knowledge and/or experience with vacuum trucks and power wash equipment an asset.
- Prior training or experience in HAZMAT Technician, Tank car Specialist, Tank truck Specialist, ICS, Confined Space Entry, etc. an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changes at a moment's notice.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Committed to teamwork and prioritizing safety.
- Ability to collaborate efficiently within a team setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide solutions during ER activations.
- High level of effective communication and transparency.
