Job Title: GIS Technician

Join the City of St. Catharines team as a GIS Technician and contribute to the development and maintenance of our geographic information systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Convert and integrate spatial data into our central database repository using prescribed methods and forms.
  • Prepare and produce mapping products and reports from our data repositories or disparate data sets.
  • Update and maintain our digital mapping of parcels and infrastructure assets within our central data repositories.
  • Retrieve and transmit information to the public or staff as required.
  • Exchange information with city field crews and utilities on underground plant locations.
  • Perform trigonometric calculations and data analysis for surveys and plans.
  • Classify, index, and file various plans and records.
  • Operate large format plotters, high resolution scanners, and other equipment.
Requirements:
  • College Diploma in Geomatics with an emphasis on Geographic Information Technology.
  • One year experience in Geographic Information Systems preferably using the ESRI GIS platform in a municipal environment.
  • Experience using Autodesk products (AutoCad/Map and Civil 3D).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting Engineering, Architectural, Topographic, and Survey plan types.
  • Agreement to enter into a separate confidentiality agreement for access to our corporate data repositories.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license, Class "G", with a clean driving record.

CUPE 157 Pay Group 8 – Minimum $67,043 annually; Maximum $75,285 annually

Expected Work Location: City Hall Hours of Work: Currently Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm
