Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Technician to join our team at the City of St. Catharines. As a GIS Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining and updating our city's spatial data repositories, ensuring accurate and reliable information for our citizens and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Convert and integrate various data sources into our central spatial database, utilizing prescribed methods and forms.
  • Prepare and generate mapping products, reports, and graphics from our data repositories or disparate data sets.
  • Update and maintain our digital mapping of parcels and infrastructure assets, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Retrieve and transmit information to the public or staff, as required, utilizing in-house records and electronic means.
  • Collaborate with city field crews and utilities to exchange information on underground plant locations.
  • Perform trigonometric calculations and data analysis to verify and augment survey measurements.
  • Classify, index, and file various plans and records, as needed.
  • Operate specialized equipment, including large format plotters, high-resolution scanners, and microcomputers.
Requirements
  • College diploma in Geomatics with a focus on Geographic Information Technology.
  • One year of experience in GIS, preferably using the ESRI platform in a municipal environment.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk products, including AutoCAD and Map 3D.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret various plan types and coordinate systems.
  • Agreement to sign a confidentiality agreement for access to corporate data repositories.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
  • Commitment to enhancing a safety culture and completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license, Class "G", with a clean driving record.
Compensation and Benefits

CUPE 157 Pay Group 8 - Minimum $67,043 annually; Maximum $75,285 annually.

Expected Work Location: City Hall Hours of Work: Currently Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm
