Position Overview

Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is in search of a proficient and committed Mechanic (410A) to contribute to the Ontario Line South project. As a vital member of Local 793, you will be essential in the upkeep and repair of heavy machinery and equipment utilized in the construction of tunnels and associated civil works. This role demands substantial experience with heavy equipment alongside a strong dedication to safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on various heavy machinery and equipment, including tunnel boring machines (TBMs), earthmoving machinery, cranes, and other construction vehicles.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Perform diagnostic evaluations to pinpoint mechanical problems, employing computerized tools and equipment to ensure accuracy in issue identification and resolution.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Formulate and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce equipment downtime and guarantee optimal performance of all machinery.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring that all maintenance and repair tasks are executed safely and efficiently. Engage in safety meetings and contribute to the formulation of safe work practices.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts utilized, hours worked, and any encountered issues. Ensure documentation is precise and current for regulatory compliance and operational monitoring.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with fellow mechanics, equipment operators, and site supervisors to ensure machinery operates optimally and to coordinate repair schedules without hindering construction progress.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond swiftly to equipment failures, delivering prompt and effective repairs to minimize project delays. Be available for emergency repairs as dictated by the project schedule.
  • Equipment Upgrades: Assist in the installation and testing of new equipment or upgrades, ensuring that all machinery adheres to project specifications and operational standards.
Qualifications:
  • Certification: Must possess a valid 410A (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician) certification.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, ideally within the construction or tunneling sector.
  • Union Membership: Must be a member in good standing with Local 793.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in diagnostic tools, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical repairs. Familiarity with TBMs and large-scale construction equipment is a significant advantage.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, with a commitment to fostering a safe working environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities, with the capacity to work effectively in a team setting and coordinate with other trades and site management.
  • Physical Fitness: Must be physically capable of managing the demands of the role, including lifting heavy components, working in confined spaces, and performing repairs in varying weather conditions.
