Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Secretary to join our Perioperative Services team at North York General Hospital. As a Unit Secretary, you will provide administrative support to the surgical team, ensuring seamless communication and coordination of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the surgical team, including coordinating patient transportation, managing surgical schedules, and preparing reports.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and families, ensuring clear and timely communication of patient information.
  • Manage confidential information and maintain accurate records, adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the coordination of interdepartmental activities, including transportation of patients for tests and discharge.
  • Triangulate telephone calls and inquiries, processing them in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Assume responsibility for identifying and advancing issues and concerns with the Clinical Team Manager or Coordinator.
  • Compile and disseminate material/documents related to program activity.
  • Manage unit supplies, services, and repair needs.

Requirements:

  • Grade XII diploma
  • A medical office assistant certificate or minimum one year comparable office experience with medical orientation
  • Medical terminology course required
  • Accurate minimum typing speed of 45 w.p.m
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with SBR and Surginet preferred
  • Knowledge of WTIS and Cancer Care Ontario preferred
  • Previous experience as a unit secretary in the operating room, endoscopy, day surgery, and Recovery room an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset
