Analytical Chemistry II Instructor

Durham College is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to contribute to our commitment to quality education and student success within the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Information Technology.

We are looking for a part-time professor to teach lab sections for CHEM4131 – Analytical Chemistry II. This course builds upon the foundation laid in Analytical Chemistry I, delving deeper into volumetric methods such as acid/base, redox, and complexation analysis. Students will explore advanced concepts and theories related to each type of analysis while gaining an introduction to instrumental analysis techniques, encompassing both electrochemical and spectroscopic methods from an analytical perspective.

Problem-solving skills are highly emphasized throughout the course. The laboratory component focuses on developing strong laboratory techniques and practices, with a particular emphasis on accuracy, precision, and the clear documentation and presentation of results.

Responsibilities:
  • Cultivate a positive learning environment that embraces diversity and caters to students' unique backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles.
  • Implement adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Effectively utilize educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses.
  • Develop curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning effectively.
  • Ensure that course and program content remains current and relevant to industry standards.
  • Demonstrate initiative and work independently while collaborating effectively with students, the program team, and various stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (a Master's degree is an asset).
  • A minimum of five years of recent and relevant work experience within the field.
  • Proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level, demonstrating a strong understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
  • Experience in industry-led or community-based applied research is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
