As a Thrift Store Sales Associate, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, processing customer transactions, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to customers, responding to their inquiries and resolving any issues in a professional and courteous manner.
- Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, handling cash, credit card, and debit transactions.
- Maintain a clean and organized store environment, including sorting and pricing donated items, and restocking shelves.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve sales goals and maintain a positive store atmosphere.
- Contribute to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, hanging, and pricing items as directed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
- This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
- Schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturday's.
- This job requires the ability to stand for extended periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching is required; the ability to lift/move 20 to 29 pounds.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Completion of Secondary School.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience.
- Cash handling experience is required.
- Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Basic math skills required.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated/disciplined.
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
