Transformative Data Engineering Leadership Opportunity

Loblaw Digital is seeking a visionary Data Engineering Director to spearhead the development of our cloud-native ML Ops platform and drive business value through data-driven insights. As a key member of our team, you will provide strategic direction and technical leadership to our data analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build and manage high-performing teams of developers, data engineers, and analysts
  • Lead initiatives to bring best practices and state-of-the-art thinking to our data engineering practice
  • Collaborate with product teams and other tech directors to ensure the ML Ops platform meets the highest standards of operational excellence
  • Work with the data science team to provide tooling and support for maximizing business impact of machine learning in our technology platform
  • Lead web analytics and marketing intelligence teams to map customer behavior and derive insights
  • Ensure data governance and access control are implemented robustly and scalable
  • Drive a culture of engineering excellence within the Data Platform and Business Intelligence teams
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science)
  • Expertise in SQL and hands-on experience with software development (preferably Java or Python, ideally both)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with cloud, ML, and Big Data technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure, Hadoop ecosystem, Spark, Kafka, Seldon, etc.)
  • Familiarity with modern SDLC practices and agile methodologies
  • Solid intuitive understanding of data modeling fundamentals
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
