Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Medical Program Manager and the Medevac Operations Manager, the Flight Nurse/Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) is responsible for providing essential medical care to patients during air transportation. This role involves direct patient interaction and care for individuals requiring medical services that are unavailable at their current location.

The Flight Nurse/ACP collaborates closely with fellow crew members and flight coordinators, maintaining constant communication to ensure the efficient and effective execution of Medevac operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides direct medical care throughout the transportation of patients requiring specialized medical attention
  • Collaborates with crew members (pilots), flight coordinators, and other stakeholders involved in patient transfers
  • Ensures effective communication with various internal and external parties to facilitate smooth Medevac operations
  • Acts as a representative for Perimeter Aviation LP, reporting to the Medical Program Manager/Medevac Operations Manager and the Medical Director
  • Ensures adherence to scheduled performance metrics
  • Completes all necessary equipment checklists in accordance with established protocols
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications and Certifications

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba or the College of Paramedics of Manitoba as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP)
  • Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Certification (PHTLS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Graduate of an accredited critical care or emergency nursing program, or possess a minimum of two years of relevant nursing experience or recognized ACP training
  • Child Abuse Registry check
  • Criminal Record check
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary transportation security clearances and authorizations
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Valid passport
  • Aeromedical Specialist certification from an approved aeromedical training course (CAMATA) is preferred but not mandatory
  • Additional education and experience are considered advantageous
  • Previous experience as a Flight Nurse/ACP is a plus
  • Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training is beneficial

Work Environment

  • Physically capable of performing all job-related duties.
  • Travel by aircraft and other means as required by the role.
  • During scheduled shifts, prearranged accommodations will be provided at the assigned remote base.
  • Must comply with the modified work agreement.
  • Available for on-call duties 24/7 during shifts.
  • Ability to lift, load, and secure patients, equipment, and baggage.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, requiring adaptability to various weather conditions.
  • Utilization of safety equipment as necessary, such as hearing protection and safety vests.
