Manager of Category Strategy for Information and Operational Technology

Job Overview
As a pivotal member of the Procurement team, the Manager of Category Strategy for Information and Operational Technology will report directly to the Senior Manager. This role is essential in crafting and implementing innovative category management approaches that yield sustainable value for the enterprise, including achieving cost-saving objectives. The Manager will oversee a team and collaborate with cross-functional groups, including business unit leaders and various CN departments, to formulate category strategies. This position involves close engagement with suppliers to enhance category management, streamline procurement planning, and set strategic priorities.
Main Responsibilities
- Define objectives and strategies for Category Management, including KPI targets and supplier management tactics.
- Supervise demand forecasting and planning activities pertinent to the category.
- Conduct spend analysis and categorize expenditures based on demand and market dynamics.
- Guide Category Analysts and Senior Contracts Specialists in executing Category Management strategies, including sourcing, evaluation, and negotiation processes, while tracking and reporting these efforts.
- Communicate status updates and potential risks to organizational leaders.
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain key relationships.
- Establish best practices for contract management and compliance oversight.
- Identify opportunities to secure business and executive support through well-developed business cases.
- Assist in the development of skills and execution of talent management initiatives.
Working Environment

Qualifications
Experience
- Extensive experience in strategic procurement and/or supply chain operations, with a minimum of 7 years in the field.
- Familiarity with Information Technology and/or Operational Technology, Software, Professional, and Consulting Services is advantageous.
Education/Certification
- A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred.
- An MBA or relevant professional designation is considered a plus.

- Expertise in contractual terms and conditions, including legal clauses.
- Familiarity with CN's procurement policies and procedures.
- Understanding of relevant supply market structures and value drivers.
- Knowledge of the commercial aspects of product/service categories.
- Insight into the rail transportation or logistics industry.
