Lead Automation Project Engineer

Reporting Structure
This role reports to the Automation Engineering Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate within a team to design and implement ABB's suite of Automation solutions, encompassing devices, systems, and services.
• Serve as the technical lead across all engineering disciplines for Automation Projects. Engage and coordinate with clients (Engineering, Operations, IT, etc.), contractors, and other stakeholders. Participate in project meetings and present all technical facets of project assignments. Work closely with clients to shape and deliver tailored automation solutions.
• Outline project tasks and ensure proper distribution of these tasks among project team members and third-party resources, specifying relevant schedules, costs, and quality metrics associated with the automation scope.
• Assist Sales in engineering projects or programs by coordinating proposal drawings, bills of materials, third-party contractors, and estimated engineering hours across all engineering disciplines.
• Oversee the engineering activities necessary for developing PCS application programming, system architecture, hardware, third-party connectivity, and factory acceptance testing, as well as installation and commissioning.
• Direct project installation, commissioning, and site activities, addressing potential issues or providing solutions to rectify engineering errors. Offer technical support during commissioning and start-up phases.
• Travel to client facilities and offices to support projects and sales initiatives.
- University Degree in Engineering or equivalent field.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in Mining and Mineral Processing is advantageous.
- Proficiency in OS virtualization technologies such as VMware or Citrix, MS; OPC, OPC/UA, ODBC.
- Familiarity with LAN/WAN industrial networks.
- Experience with ABB 800xA, Harmony, and Symphony + systems.
- A willingness to learn and embrace new challenges.
- Proficiency in French is required; English is also necessary for regular communication with clients outside of Quebec.
