Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities


• Assume technical responsibility for the design and execution of assigned automation projects from initiation to startup.

• Lead engineering activities to develop integrated process and electrical control solutions that align with customer specifications. This includes interpreting control lists, customer drawings, schematics, P&IDs, electrical one-lines, and other specifications;

• Assist in creating a comprehensive controls package submission, including electrical design and operational sequences;

• Program controllers and HMI applications utilizing various ABB and third-party control/PLC systems, employing IEC 61131 programming languages and configuring associated HMI terminals;

• Design field communications utilizing a variety of industry-standard bus protocols;

• Apply knowledge of Ethernet networked devices to design control-related networks. This role involves hands-on work.

• Collaborate effectively within a team or independently, developing functional design specifications, and supporting system testing, installation, startup, and commissioning of integrated systems.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating relevant accomplishments.
  • 3 to 7 years of recent, direct experience in: hands-on controls and HMI work, configuring control software and hardware, designing control panels, managing BoM and submissions, control programming, and Modbus communications, with experience in both light and heavy industry control applications.
  • Desirable experience includes: ABB 800xA, AC800M (Control Builder), AC500 (Automation Builder), and/or Allen Bradley SLC/PLC-5 (RSLogix 500), Control/CompactLogix (RSLogix 5000) programming, ABB Process Panel/CP600 and/or PanelView line HMI programming, system integration, automation and/or electrical controls design and engineering, and integration of 460VAC and/or 575VAC VFDs and other drive systems into control solutions.
  • Experience with site startup and troubleshooting, as well as electrical design and power distribution, is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise, strong organizational and planning skills, analytical capabilities, and excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel: 10% to 15% is required.
